Description
scapple: to work or shape roughly, without smoothing to a finish.
- The Chambers Dictionary
ROUGH IT OUT
Ever scribbled ideas on a piece of paper and drawn lines between related thoughts? Then you already know what Scapple does. It's a virtual sheet of paper that lets you make notes anywhere and connect them using lines or arrows.
MAKE CONNECTIONS
Join up your thinking however you want. Scapple doesn't force you to make connections—every note is equal, so it's up to you which notes have connections and which don't. You have complete freedom to experiment with how your ideas fit together.
IT’S SCAPPLE SIMPLE
Creating notes is as easy as double-clicking anywhere on the page; making connections between ideas is as simple as dragging and dropping one note onto another. And unlike real paper, in Scapple you can move notes around and never run out of space.
FEATURES
• Simple—and fun!—to use
• Write notes anywhere
• Connect notes using drag and drop
• Move and arrange notes easily
• Stack notes in columns of related ideas
• Label connections
• Create background shapes to group notes
• Customise the appearance of notes
• MathType support
• iCloud syncing
• Full screen mode
• Export to popular formats or print your ideas
• Easily drag notes into Scrivener for further development

Great - But fails in one major regard
I downloaded the free trial of this app from the developer's website with the intention of trying it for 30 days but I instantly realised it was just what I was looking for and so purchased it the same day from the AppsStore (despite it being more expensive than buying a licence from the developer). I intend to use it ton my Mac to draw 'London Underground' type maps of very large railway maps showing the connections between several dozen railway stations for both Passenger and Cargo Lines. These routes need to be easily changeable. The only reason I have not given 5 stars is because although the colour, size and bold attributes of all text and boxrs can be changed it does not appear to be possible to change such attributes on the connecting lines - the only option is to have a dotted line or a continuous arrowed line. That aspect of the program was disappointing. Otherwise fantastic.
Just a little more formatting control, please
I love the simplicity of Scapple, but please could we have a little more formatting control? In particular, lease can we have ability to format connectors? At the moment, we can have dashed without arrows, or solid with one or two arrow heads. It would be great to independently control dash and arrow head and better yet to show priorities with different line thicknesses and coloured lines. I’d also like to italicise individual words in a box.
But these are extras - the tool works well and does what it does to a high standard. It is not a mind-mapper, but a really good way of getting your notes down.

Potentially brilliant with a couple of tweaks
Scapple is a great app for throwing ideas together and then arranging them into a more organised form. i.e. preparing the input to a project plan or taxonomy I had been using Omnigraffle for this, but Scapple provides a simpler, faster and less expensive alternative. I use mind maps but sometimes but their heirarchy is too restrictive and Scapple offers greater flexibility.
It is just so quick to pull ideas together with Scapple that I am using it more and more.
I do, however, have a couple of issues:
I share the disappointment of others that there is not an iOS version. If ever an app was perfect for the iPad this is it.
I also agree with others who would like more coprehensive connection line formatting. It would help a great deal if curved and orthogonal lines were available.
Split lab 1 3 download free. I can create my own formats, but they are only valid for the current note. Once I start a new note they have disappeared from the menu.
